Simone has a very strong horse and competition background. She is the 3rd generation of her family that is involved with horses. Her grandmother was a dressage rider and her grandfather a polo rider. Her father, Michael Detemple, is an Official FEI Showjumping Judge who in his early years was a jumping rider and her mother, Nydia Detemple is a very well known Dressage rider and trainer in Brazil. Since there were horses in the family, Simone started to ride at a very young age, when she was just riding for fun. It was in 1988 that she decided to pursue horseback riding as a sport. First she started in showjumping but it was in 1990 when she started taking lessons from her mother that she fell in love with the art of Dressage.
Simone got a horse at that age that she will remember dearly forever. His name was D`Artagnan, an Argentinean Trakhener horse, who was already 17 years old. D’Artagnan was her teacher and taught not only her, but some of her students as well, from training level up to FEI Intermediate I. Her mother was always her trainer, but she attended various clinics and seminars. Throughout the years, Simone got 6 Brazilian Championships and one Reserve Championship and 10 Regional Championships and one Reserve Championship. She also represented Brazil in International Competitions in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. In 1996, she started training horses and teaching from beginners to advanced levels. She has students who achieved Brazilian and Regional Championships and two received government recognitions as “highlight of the year in sport”.
In March 2003 Simone moved to Massachusetts and started training in the US.
Simone believes that every horse has its different training time and she develops a training program according to each animal needs and characteristics, not rushing them to achieve certain levels when they are not yet ready to. Her training background is mostly the German System and Methodology and she trains young horses and reeducates old ones as well.
Simone believes that having a correct seat through the correct use of the eyes, breathing, centering and balance to achieve a correct communication with the horse through the aids is the base for everything. She emphasizes her work on improving the rider’s balance, confidence and position through ground exercises and longeing. She also develops a different training program for each rider, that includes theory and practice, to better meet their goals and skills and to make horse/ rider a team and partners. She is a pro-active instructor, pointing out not only mistakes to be corrected but also each student’s and horse’s improvements and achievements.
Although Simone teaches children and adults from beginners to advanced levels, she specializes in Youth Dressage. She encourages children to learn about every aspect of the sport - riding and horse care, to have fun and to develop the good sportsmanship that will create the winners of the future.
